Creating the Future of postgraduate endodontics Admissions together
EndoMatch
This website has been created primarily for two purposes – (1) to act as a resource for discussing the currently used endodontics residency application and admissions processes; and (2) to aim toward creating a better future for endodontics residency program applicants by advocating for the implementation of formal Match application and admissions processes.
These same Match application and admissions processes are currently being used by all of the other major dental specialties, as well as many of the GPR and AEGD programs. Endodontics remains the sole outlier specialty and continues to use a rolling admissions approach that can include the regressive bargaining practice of extending “exploding offers” to its successful program applicants.

How can you participate?
To build on the possibility of a future admissions Match process for postgraduate endodontics, we need to acknowledge, understand, and appreciate both the present and the past. We can do this together by creating a detailed knowledge base of real world endodontics residency application, admission, and program experiences.
Add your voice detailing your personal story within the current endodontics residency application, admission, and program enrollment processes.
What is an “exploding offer” of admission? It is one where there is typically a very short time period made available for decision making. As an example is the following statement:
“This offer of admission into our program is only good for the next 24 hours, so I will need to hear from you by then or I will have to rescind it.”

Example questions for you to ponder:
1) How many interview invitations did you receive?
2) How many interviews were you able to complete?
3) Was an offer of acceptance into an endodontics residency program extended to you?
4) Did you feel unduly pressured or forced to make an endodontics residency position acceptance decision before you felt prepared to do so?
5) Were you able to complete all of your interviews before making an endodontics residency position acceptance decision?
6) Did you decline an endodontics residency position “exploding offer”? If you did decline an offer, why did you choose to do so and were you later accepted into a different program during the same application cycle?
7) If you declined an offer and were not later accepted into a different program during the same cycle, how did this impact your future?
8) If you did choose to accept an “exploding offer” for an endodontics residency position, and the program was not among your top choices, how did that decision later affect your time during residency?
9) Please share your overall opinions as to whether or not a postgraduate Match program for Endodontics is a good idea.
10) Complete the EndoMatch survey below (coming soon) of your personal experiences participating within our current Non-Match world of endodontics residency application and admission.

Not alone
Many current and former faculty members recognize the need for having a Match program in Endodontics.
I truly hope this site stimulates positive steps in that direction.

We need this
None of us wants to be pressured or forced to make important decisions without being fully informed. Thank you for trying to drag endodontics into our modern times. My classmates and colleagues all ask me ‘What is wrong with endodontics, by them not wanting to also be included in the match program like the other specialties?’
